A new week and a new time to try something new!
We all want to be healthier, right? But what I have learned is becoming healthier means different things to different people. I also know this is where so many looking to get healthier get confused by the different ways out there. I know it’s impossible to do everything, and this is precisely why I created the 5 Basics to a Nourished Life!
But right now I want to help you create a checklist for yourself, are you ready?!
Let’s do this!
First, what are areas that you need help with? Select from this list:
increase water/ fluids intake
eat more fruits and veggies
exercise- write down which type or do you want to mix it up?
be outdoors
garden more
learn something you have always wanted- be specific
go to the spa or do something spa-like for yourself
What makes your checklist too daunting and lengthy? It’s when you add to-dos such as those in this pic.
I have reviewed some checklists and adding “take a shower/ bath” or “reading a book” seems like these might make a list seem more daunting and lengthy than putting the most important items you actually need help with. Don’t get me wrong showering and smelling fresh is very, very important! But we should have that down pat in adulthood, am I right?!
I think most would agree we do not need to know if we need a bath or when to read unless it’s to study for a course or exam to keep us on track and know we are making progress.
Ideally, you first want to list things and maybe decide how long you will need to spend on each item per day. If you work 8 hours a day then maybe painting for 4 hours at a studio 1 hour away from your home may not work, every day. The idea is to be realistic. And it is not to say you can’t paint for 4 hours as long as you don’t have anything else on your checklist.
I know checklists work! And frankly, since my last newsletter, I am creating one for myself in my daytimer. There are just some things I need a checklist for. So what am I including:
study- knocking one course off my to-do list at a time
10,000 steps and/or a workout daily. Truth be told I have gained a few pounds from not being able to move as much, and try to work, all the while dealing with a flare of ulcerative colitis. It’s time to make sure it’s on the self-care checklist and gets checked off daily!
Those are my main goals at the moment. In 2-3 months these may change or I may add something else to my list. This is perfectly normal. Don’t overthink it. Don’t create a long list that its impossible to check everything off of it daily because this will lead to failure and then spiral into a bad habit of procrastination.
Tell me, are you considering creating your own checklist to get your health on track or maybe to keep you on track with a project? Please do share your idea here…
