Have you sat and thought about your health and where you are on the healthy scale?
Don’t know? Let me ask you.
On a scale from 1-10 how would you rate your overall health?
To help, answer the following:
Are you eating clean and wholesome meals and snacks?
Are you moving 10,000 steps or more every day?
Are you falling asleep easily every night?
Are you staying asleep through the night?
Are you staying hydrated every day?
Are you grabbing salty, packaged snacks?
Are you eating too much-refined sugar?
Are you reading labels?
If you have answered “No” to most questions then your scale has probably gone from 10 to ? I am not a perfect 10 either. If we go back to basics we start to learn and not only see how much better we look but more importantly how much better we feel! And when we feel better we want to continue to feel better and will try new things to achieve it. Am I right?
We are all so disillusioned by seeing those who just eat whatever they want, exercise, drink every night, go out often and we think that is good health. They work out. They have eaten the occasional salad. Are they living the life you really want? It is only a matter of time before their health starts to deteriorate.
The more we listen to experts and listen to studies that are done … the evidence is there. Of course, no one is perfect. Maybe close, but this isn’t about being perfect. It is about trying to achieve better health in your daily life.
WAYS TO HELP:
Eat from whole foods that you have to prep, not prepped for you in a package.
Use lemons and herbs for dressings.
(Why do we try to cover up the taste of food instead of trying to taste it?)
To stay hydrated, limit caffeine, which makes you dehydrated. Stick to water, unflavored coconut water, and herbal teas. Oh and bone broth.
MOVE THAT BODY. I just read the best quote that went like this:
The human body was never designed for a sedentary lifestyle, it was created to hunt saber-tooth tigers and walk 40 miles a day!
Sleep well. Be tired when you go to bed so that you fall asleep easier and stay asleep longer.
A couple of reasons you are not falling asleep easily. You are having caffeinated beverages too late in the afternoon. Believe me the older I am getting the longer caffeine seems to stay within my system. Studies show caffeine can stay within your body for up to 10 hours. So that 3 pm coffee may be keeping you up at night. Try an afternoon green tea, which is naturally caffeinated and may give you that little boost to get you through your day but trust me you will be tired before your usual bedtime!
And finally … do something you are passionate about daily! Whether you want to save sharks from going extinct or learn and share all learned health tips with the masses (!). Whatever it is make sure you are doing things you love every day! Its been studied that not only is it good for your brain and releases the feel-good hormones such as dopamine (when we experience something pleasurable), serotonin (exercise or being outdoors), and/or endorphins (from cardio, if, say, exercise is your passion).
I created the 5 Basics to a Nourished Life to help those with Inflammatory Bowel Disease/ Autoimmune disease to learn about how to start to get healthier. With all the information and experts to speak with I am surprised to still hear “but how do I start?”.
